Our planet is full of beautiful and stunningly diverse life. The wild flora and fauna have an incalculable value for our own existence contributing to many aspects of human life and to sustainable development. Still, 1 million wild plant and animal species are facing extinction today, due to the drastic effects of human activities over their environment. 3/4 of the land-based environment, 85% of wetlands, and 2/3 of oceans has been significant and negatively altered. But we can reverse this trend. While the science is clear about the extent and gravity of the biodiversity crisis, it’s also clear that we have time to reverse course if we act now.
Nations around the world are working together to raise awareness and step up support to local communities’ efforts to stop the illegal trade in wildlife. Additionally, conservation efforts has been started in many countries and the younger generations are becoming more active and committed. Even things are changing for the best in many ways, and we are starting to see some improvement, the process is slow. Many things aren’t changing for many reasons the main ones related to economy.
As private people we may not have the power or the finances to make a big impact on conservation but there are many things we can still do. How about doing one of the following things?
- Recycling as much as possible
- Use more recycled/recyclable and sustainable products
- Adopting an endangered animal (there are many flexible and affordable ways to do this, you can check the WWF page, for example).
- Raise awareness of the situation through your family, friends, social media, etc.
- Go to a “clear plastic” event in a nearby beach.
In Piquail we value nature and wildlife and would like to raise awareness of the urgency of taking action. If many people try their best, making small acts, they will transform in small changes and hopefully in the future, the small changes will become the bigger change we all are hoping for.
Our new collection featuring endangered species like the snow leopard, the pangolin, and the red panda, will include sustainable pins, magnets and earrings. Our products are eco-friendly and sustainable and would be a thoughtful and cute gift for next Christmas!
